Minor League scores for 4/17/2006

  • Dayton beat the Quad Cities 6-3 in a clinic of not how to play defense. The teams combined for 7 errors. Jay Bruce hit his first home run of the year and drove in 2. Travis Wood made the start, allowing 2 runs, but only 1 earned in 4 innings. He gave up 3 hits and 3 walks to go with 4 strikeouts. Jeff Stevens took over for Wood in the 5th and picked up the win for the Dragons.

  • The Sarasota Reds for the second time in a week held a matchup with two of the best pitching prospects in baseball. Cole Hamels of the Clearwater Threshers and Homer Bailey of the Reds squared off. Last time, Hamels took care of the Reds with ease and the Threshers won. This time, Bailey pulled out his first victory of the year while Hamels got the loss. Homer went 5 innings of 1 hit baseball and struck out 5. He did not allow a run. Hamels only last 4.2 innings of 7 hit, 4 run (3 earned) baseball. He did however strike out 8 Reds. Brandon Roberts, Tonys Gutierrez and Drew Anderson had multi-hit games that led to the 7-1 win.

  • Chattanooga defeated Mobile 5-4 in 10 innings. Miguel Perez led off the 10th inning with a single, was sacraficed over and doubled in by Noochie Varner for the go ahead run in the top of the 10th. Joey Votto went 2-6 with his 4th HR of the year and 2 RBI. Chris Dickerson also had 2 hits. All combined, the Lookouts had 14 hits in their 10 innings. Travis Chick only lasted 4.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4.

  • The Louisville Bats took care of Ottawa 2-1. Justin Germano made the start and went 7 innings of 0 run, 4 hit and 4 strikeout baseball. On the other side of things, Chris Denorfia went 3-3, with a walk, a double and a run scored. Rob Stratton went 1-4 with a double and both RBI's for the Bats. Jason Larue making a rehab start went 0-4 with a strikeout.
