Lots of Minor League News and Notes

  • Sean Watson, the Reds second round pick has signed.
  • Travis Webb, a LHP selected by the Reds in the 8th round out of Washington State also signed his contract.
  • CincinnatiReds.com has a nice article up on Jay Bruce

He was chosen to start in the outfield at the Midwest League All-Star Game in Quad Cities, Iowa, on Tuesday. Through Wednesday, Bruce was batting .291 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs in 63 games. He is in the top five in the league in home runs, RBIs, doubles, triples, runs and slugging percentage, and he is in the top 10 in hits.

"As far as the physical tools of hitting, he's got them all," said Dragons manager Billy Gardner of the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder. "He's got good bat speed, very easy power. He has the ability to hit to all fields. He's got a very large upside with the bat.

"The biggest thing with him is being able to deal with adversity, [which] he hasn't faced yet."

All of Bruce's success has come despite a nagging shoulder injury he sustained a month ago, which he now insists is fine.
