Homer has made big strides with his control this year. Since the beginning of June he has been nearly un-hittable. In 31 innings since June began, he has allowed 11 hits, 4 walks and struck out 37 while allowing just 1 run over that time period. Homer is probably one of the top 10 prospects in all of baseball.

Jay has been absolutely killing the ball this year for the Dragons. He is hitting for power and for average. Jay has very good speed, a cannon of an arm, he can play great defense and his plate discipline is starting to get better. Jay probably will be moved to a corner outfield spot when he gets to Cincinnati, but for now he is playing CF and RF in Dayton.
3. Joey Votto - 1B - 22 years old

After a very good 2004 Season between Dayton and Potomac, Joey had high expectations for his 2005 season in Sarasota. He had his worst season as a professional though. 2006 however Joey is back on track and tearing apart the Southern League. Joey currently is leading the Southern League in all Triple Crown categories. Is he going to be in Chattanooga long enough for that to happen though?
4. Travis Wood - LHP - 19 years old
2005 Season
Year | Team | W | L | ERA | G | GS | CG | IP | H | R | ER | HR | BB | SO | H9 | HR9 | BB9 | K9 | WHIP |

Travis jumped onto the scene last year after being drafted and dominated both the GCL and the Pioneer League as an 18 year old. This season in the more advanced Midwest League, he is putting up very good rates in both strikeouts and hits allowed. His home run totals are a little bit scary, but in 36.2 innings since June began, he has only allowed 2 HR.
5. Johnny Cueto - RHP - 20 years old
2005 Season
Year | Team | W | L | ERA | G | GS | SV | IP | H | R | ER | HR | BB | SO | H9 | HR9 | BB9 | K9 | WHIP |

Johnny Cueto was a relative unknown prospect coming into this season. In Baseball Americas top 30 preseason rankings, he was nowhere to be seen. The Dominican product burst onto the season by dominating the Midwest League the first few months of the season. Cueto fired a no-hitter earlier in the season and has since gotten a promotion to Advanced A Sarasota. His first three outings have been from horrible to bad, but each start has gotten better and I am not to worried about Johnny adjusting and adapting to his new competition.
6. Zach Ward - RHP - 22 years old
Team | W | L | ERA | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | HR | BB | SO | H9 | HR9 | BB9 | K9 | WHIP |
Dayton | 7 | 0 | 2.51 | 17 | 15 | 97.0 | 65 | 32 | 27 | 2 | 26 | 85 | 6.03 | 0.19 | 2.41 | 7.87 | 0.94 |
Zach was the Reds 3rd round pick in 2005, but didn't pitch last year to give his arm a rest from his work in college. He came onto the scene in Dayton this year and has dominated the Midwest League (sound familiar doesn't it? Dayton has some top prospects). Zach is a little bit old for the Midwest League, but despite his domination of the league, he has not gotten a promotion. Ward is very stingy in giving up home runs, he went over 70 innings between the only 2 he has allowed all season. Ward is an extreme ground ball pitcher, with a 149 to 45 Ground out to Fly out ratio (3.31 Ground ball outs to 1 fly ball out).
7. Javon Moran - OF - 23 years old

2006 Season
Team | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | SO | SB | CS | OBP | SLG | AVG |
Sarasota | 10 | 43 | 5 | 16 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 4 | 4 | .413 | .419 | .372 |
Chattanooga | 42 | 162 | 23 | 52 | 6 | 2 | 1 | 8 | 5 | 18 | 10 | 4 | .351 | .401 | .321 |
He doesn't take a walk, but the guy hits, hits, hits and then hits some more. Since coming over with Elizardo Ramirez in the Cory Lidle trade, he has hit over .330 for the Reds farm system. He plays good defense as well, but has no power and his on base percentage is completely batting average driven. The one thing I wonder about is when Javon first came into the minors, he stole a ton of bases. Why doesn't he do more of this now?
8. Rafael Gonzalez - RHP - 20 years old

He is young, and arguably has some of the best stuff in the system. Gonzalez has a fastball that sits between 92-94 and can touch 97 at times. He also has a curveball that is a plus pitch when it is on. He has been very inconsistent up to this point though, and for how good his stuff is, he hasn't shown the ability to strike guys out like you would like. His ceiling however is quite high, question is if he can ever reach it.

He has performed well this season between Chattanooga and Louisville with the exception of 3 starts. His future is probably as a bullpen guy, but he has good stuff and is at the higher rungs in the minors.
10. Drew Stubbs - OF - 21 years old
His defense is the best we have in the system. He is also a very good athlete with a very high ceiling. He is struggling to hit though in the Pioneer League which has me worried, but its still early in the season.
