Josh Ravin is a 6'4" right handed pitcher that the Reds drafted out of Chatsworth High School in the 5th round of the 2006 draft. He has 3 pitches, an 89-91 MPH fastball, a change up and a curveball. His fastball has been clocked at 92 and 93 at times, but sits 89-91. Josh started the season off with the GCL Reds in the Gulf Coast League (low rookie). He pitched very well there until his last outing before being promoted. In that outing Josh went 1.2 innings, allowed 3 hits, 4 walks and 5 earned runs. Prior to that outing Josh had an ERA of 2.33 and had pitched extremely well. Josh made just 4 starts for Billings after being promoted and he pitched well, posting a 3.52 ERA and striking out 18 in 15.1 innings. His walk totals look a little bad, but most young pitchers, especially right out of high school post higher than ideal walk totals. For the season Josh had an ERA under 4.00 and he struck out 9.97 hitters per 9 innings pitched and he allowed just 1 home run in 36.1 innings. Josh is one of my favorite picks last year, and I expect good things from him next year. I would look for him to begin the year in Dayton and stay there all season as he adjusts more to full season professional baseball.
