Justin came into his senior season with a football scholarship on the table from Mississippi, but decided that he would play baseball for any team who drafted him in the first five rounds. The Reds were that team and he signed quickly and was assigned to the GCL Reds. Justin struggled a bit while in rookie ball for the Reds. He showed little power and a poor ability to get on the base paths. For someone who is said to have a 60 on the 20-80 scale of speed, Justin ran the bases rather poorly, stealing just 6 of 11 bases. On the bright side of things, 6 triples in 161 at bats is very impressive, as are 19 walks for someone who seemed to not get hits often. Justin was expected to be a "project" type, but he was a very athletic type that teams wanted to get into the system. I would be very surprised if Justin were to play in A-ball next year after a poor showing in rookie ball. I think Justin will be someone to keep an eye on though next season to see how he progresses with his batting average and with his stolen bases.
