Baseball America ranks Bailey at #1 and Cueto at #14 in the FSL

Baseball America released its top 20 prospects in the Florida State League, where the Sarasota Reds play. The Reds had just 2 players make the list, Homer Bailey and Johnny Cueto. Homer Bailey was rated as the #1 prospect in the Florida State League, which featured 4 of the first 5 prospects as pitchers, the Brewers Ryan Braun was the only position player in the top 5. Johnny Cueto, the Dominican product that burst onto the scene this year in both Dayton and Sarasota came in ranked at #14. The FSL is stocked full of pitching prospects and Cueto and Bailey made sure the Reds made the list. There were only a few premiere hitters in the entire league this year, so the lack of a Reds position player is no big surprise. One note on Cueto was that he seemed more impressive in Sarasota than in Dayton, despite the much better ERA in Dayton. He had his fastball sitting 93-97 in the FSL and must have stepped it up a notch as he advanced with the competition. It will be interesting to see whether or not he starts back in the FSL next year or makes the jump to Chattanooga and AA.
