Top Hitting Prospect

Drew Stubbs - 2006 1st round draft pick out of U. of Texas

Drew Stubbs performed so bad, he made my #1 on the most disappointing seasons for a Reds minor league player. However his ceiling is much higher than anyone else on the team, and until other guys (Valaika, Dorn, Parker) perform good at a higher level, such a small sample size cant and wont overtake Drew Stubbs potential. His defense is supposed to be Gold Glove Major League ready right now, and looking at the stats, he can get on base at a decent clip (.116 isolated discipline is impressive) and he will steal you some bases if you need him to. Those things could carry him to a bench on most Major League teams, even if he cant hit well at all. If he can get his swing figured out, he could have a bright future.

Top Pitching Prospect

Sean Watson - 2006 2nd round draft pick out of U. of Tennessee

Sean Watson was one of two players I considered for this (Jordan Smith was the other), but his stuff seems to be better and his strikeout rate pushed him over the top. He brings 4 pitches to the table including a 92-95MPH fastball and an impressive low 80s knuckle-curve. As of now, it would appear that Watson was drafted to be turned into a starter. Watson had a very poor showing once he was promoted, but I think he is still the best pitching prospect that stepped on the mound in Billings this year.
